Xerox DocuMate 4790 Scanner Driver. So far, I did all the scanning work (to manage the whole is still despite many quirks still Paperport 14 used) in the home office with the scanner unit of a Brother MFC, on the way with a scanner app for smartphones. The latter is really only practicable at low scan volume, and the scan quality, well. And if you want to scan on both sides, that is slow and error prone over the MFC (stack insert, run through, turn around, run the stack again and then hope that the software fits the pages together). The Multifunction printers with duplex-capable scanner are either too slow (2-pass-process, and the "turning mechanisms" are also sometimes like bitchy) or as a "real", so single-pass duplex scanner so expensive that you also for the extra charge separate duplex document scanner. Since I'm also traveling a lot and also a lot of paperwork, I was looking for a small but powerful enough device to handle duplex scans in the home office. I was about to buy the Canon 208, but the frequent reports on paper feeding problems then let me grab the Xerox. The Xerox DocuMate 4790 driver setup of the scan software proved to be unproblematic under Windows 8.1. Insert DVD, first only the basic package selected, and after a few minutes, it could start. A task bar icon allows you to select basic settings and some (predefined but subsequently customizable) profiles for different scan tasks and destinations.

Xerox DocuMate 4790 scanner connected, opened, template inserted, Scanbutton pressed and the SnapScan is in charge. The actual scanning process is simple from the device, the scan results for the intended purpose of the device more than neat. The resolution and mechanical accuracy of the scanner can convince, even pale documents are easy to read, in duplex mode, however, sometimes at the price of a due to translucent font falsely not recognized as such and therefore mitübertragenen blank page. No problem, with the supplied Soft (or here with PaperPort) corrected in an instant. A high-end photo scanner I have with the device but definitely not, but I did not expect that. The paper guide, which has to be "folded together" several times in the housing cover, looks somewhat filigree, but fulfills its purpose. Even receipts, etc. are fed properly, but not always immediately recognized as inserted, as you may have to add something. Unfortunately, the bad habit of cash registers, even with only a few items on them, due to huge logos and page-long copywriting to a meter-long "scarf", unfortunately leads to the scanner sometimes stops processing because he thinks a paper jam is recognized to have. Then only trimming helps.
